How can we Show Up & Glow Up if we’re vibing low?
Burnout affects us all and it looks different for each of us. So before we get into it remember that what you might find easy, another may find challenging and visa versa. Any stress and anxiety levels are relative to what you are experiencing, and if you feel it honey – it’s real.
So what is burnout?
According to our trusty friend Google AI: “…burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged or excessive stress, often work-related. It's not a medical diagnosis but a state where individuals feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to cope with demands….”
Having experienced burnout first hand with myself, my friends, my colleagues and clients – here are my rituals to helping navigate the tense times.
Get Home and Take Off the Cape
Still performing even while you’re depleted?
• Try sitting still for 60 seconds with no music, no phone, and no pretending that everything is ok
• Remind yourself you can’t do everything
• Physically take off a piece of clothing or jewellery that represents your ‘performer’ self (blazer, heels, necklace, lipstick, etc).
• Replace it with something soft and authentic to your true at home self (a robe, a hoodie, balm).
This is your transition back to yourself. When the cape is off, the phone is away. Emails are not read, calls are not answered, this is YOU time. It’s not about what you want, this is about what you need babe.
Emotional Steam Room
What happens when you go to a steam room? You sweat it out, so let’s create the same environment for your mind.
• Set a 5-minute timer.
• Write or voice note: “What baggage is on me that doesn’t belong to me?”
• There’s no need to solve anything here honey, just sweat it out emotionally! Release ittttt!
• End with a deep exhale and have a glass of water – mark the close. Add ice, lemon – even cucumber and mint if she’s feeling boujie!
Candle-Only Hour
I’ve been having spiritual coaching with Emma Griffin and I have to say, she’s changing my life. I feel like I’m coming to the surface again and it feels so gooooood. One thing she said to me during one of our sessions is to light a candle before doing anything with intention, the past self will recognise the candle and know to tune into the present.
I love noticing the way the light flickers around the flame, for me it represents the different energies in the room all whizzing past oneanother!
• Overhead lights, lamps, anything electric goes off.
• Light a candle, be boujie if you like and light THE candle. I bought a hella elevated candlestick that I light my pillar candles on from House of Hackney – go the extra mile with this one.
• As life continues to spill about as it likes, let the candle remind you that inside you is a place of inner calm. Let the flame flicker as the mind settles. Be present.
Set your phone to Glow Mode
For when you’re doomscrolling but can’t stop.
• You’re familiar with Do Not Disturb on your phone right? Well did you know you can customise it?
· Create a do not disturb setting marked Glow Mode, you can even set it to certain times at night. Having this rename helps remind you that being off social media or any apps that fill your brain is a form of self love and helps calm any mind strain.
· Burnout doesn’t just disappear, you gotta pull the levers everywhere babe! I even took screen shots on my phone to prove to you, it’s a thing!
Bare Minimum Morning
If burnout makes mornings feel like mountains – scale it back. Just three checks:
Drink a full glass of water before coffee (I like to have a herbal tea before my coffee)
Say one nice thing to yourself as you put on your underwear and say it again when you look in the mirror (it’s not silly, do it! It will make a difference!)
Put on music that makes your heart exhale (feel good uplifters only!)
The “Life Audit Lite”
For when you feel like quitting everything. Write two lists:
1. Things that drain me right now
2. Things that used to energise me
Pick one thing from list 2 and reintroduce it in a small way this week. I think burnout often signals misalignment so bring yourself closer to truth!
The Moonlight Shower – oh yeah babes
For when you feel disconnected from your body, take a beat. Spark up some inner magic if necessary.
• Shower in the dark with only a candle or dim light.
• Exfoliate and use a body wash you love. Take the day off and have a moment of pure disconnection.
• It feels otherworldly and really helps me feel hidden and gives me a total, kinda witchy, recharge.
Remember:
My love, keep going. It’s hard but it won’t last forever. If it’s not making you happy today or tomorrow then perhaps begin asking yourself, why…
If this helped, please consider buying my book The Confidence Ritual - it might help (I’m absolutely certain it will).
Love Always XX Jules
